Woods 'may not be 100 per cent for US Open'
04/06/2008
World number one Tiger Woods has admitted he may not be at full strength for the second major of the year at Torrey Pines next week.
The American has been out of action since the Masters in April after being forced into arthroscopic surgery on his left knee to correct a long-standing problem that was causing him discomfort.
And despite saying at the time he believed he would have little difficulty returning to the PGA Tour in time for the US Open, he has now said he may have to play in California at less than 100 per cent fit.
"It's getting there," he said.
"Hopefully, it'll be close to 100 per cent [by next week], but if it's not it's no big deal - I have won tournaments when it wasn't 100 per cent.
"It's just a matter of getting into the competitive flow and the rhythm of the game again."
Woods had targeted last week's Memorial Tournament in Ohio for his competitive comeback, but was forced to withdraw to focus on his rehabilitation after admitting it had been a slower process than he had initially expected.
The last time Woods underwent surgery for a similar problem was six years ago, and on that occasion he returned at the Buick Invitational - also at Torrey Pines - and won the tournament.
