Woods moves within one of Sabbatini

05/08/2007

Tiger Woods has moved to within one shot of the lead at the WGC Bridgestone Invitational, but the tournament is still led by South African Rory Sabbatini on four-under-par.

Sabbatini started the day three-shots ahead of the field on six-under but a double bogey at the first hole quickly reduced his advantage.

It was an inconsistent front nine from the 31-year-old as he picked up two birdies and two bogeys; however, he steadied himself on the back nine – completing the round with nine pars.

Sabbatini's round of two-over gave Woods a glimmer of hope and he took advantage with a round of one-under that edged him closer to the top of the leaderboard.

The world number one was bearing down on Sabbatini all day after picking up two birdies on the opening nine holes.

He dropped a shot at the 10th hole but recovered immediately at the next with a birdie. Woods had a share of the lead before he made a crucial bogey on the final hole to finish the day one shot behind.

Sabbatini is unfazed about facing off against the 12 times major winner during the final round.

He said: "If you start playing your opponent, you start making mistakes. You always have to stick to your game plan."

Woods said: "Obviously Rory is full of confidence. He believes in what he can do, and there is a lot to be said for that.

"You have got to believe in what you can do out there. I have got to go out there and do my business, and I am sure he will probably do the same."
