Woods tipped for grand slam
18/12/2006
The runner-up at the Target World Challenge golf event, Geoff Ogilvy, has tipped Tiger Woods to complete a grand slam of all four majors this year.
Ogilvy finished second behind Woods in Sunday's event at the Sherwood Country Club in California and said the American is playing well enough to successfully challenge for every title in the 2007 calendar year.
Woods, who turns 31 at the end of this year, has previously held all four majors simultaneously – an achievement that has become known as the "Tiger Slam" – but has never triumphed in all the competitions in the same season.
However, the Australian believes that the conditions and courses expected in this year's US Open, British Open, US Masters and PGA Championships will suit the world number one's game.
"He's the best player in the world and he's going to have a chance every week he tees it up," Ogilvy said. "But a lot of the right things have to happen for him to win all four.
"[Masters' course] Augusta obviously sets up well for him - he's a great scrambler - and at Carnoustie [the venue for the British Open], he did all right last time.
"It was only ten years ago people were thinking it was absolutely far-fetched to win two, now you've got him winning four."
The first of the 2007 majors is the Masters, which begins on April 2nd.
