Woods to play US Open despite knee problems
11/06/2008
Tiger Woods is set to play in the US Open at Torrey Pines this week despite admitting his knee injury is still not fully healed.
The world number one was forced to undergo arthroscopic surgery on his left knee-joint following the Masters - the last major tournament on the calendar in April.
Despite claiming at the time that his rehabilitation would be complete within six weeks, Woods has revealed he is still feeling the effects of surgery nearly two months later.
But he has rejected suggestions this could affect his performance in California.
"I'm good to go. Come game time on Thursday I'll be ready," he said.
"Is [the injury] fully recovered? Probably not, but it's not a big deal.
"I've won tournaments like that before."
Woods conceded his preparations have been far from ideal as he looks to repeat his US Open success of 2002.
He said he has been practising "quite a bit" but had only played a full round of golf as part of a corporate event rather than a concerted effort at Tour standard.
But the American stated he is still sure he can mount a serious challenge, despite the risk that his play will be slightly hampered.
"It's obviously been a while since I've played competitively and I'm really looking forward to getting out there and mixing it up with the guys," he added.
