Woosnam mixes things up
20/09/2006
European captain Ian Woosnam has surprisingly retained only one of his pairings from yesterday's opening Ryder Cup practice session.
After bad weather conditions had kept the players from teeing off until 12:00 BST at the K Club, the only partnership to emerge unscathed was that of Darren Clarke and Lee Westwood, who played alongside a new affiliation of Paul Casey and David Howell.
Despite saying yesterday that he was keen to pair nationalities wherever possible, Woosnam sent out the pairing of Sergio Garcia and Luke Donald with a Jose Maria Olazabal and Robert Karlsson double act.
The final foursome featured the teaming up of Padraig Harrington and Colin Montgomerie, with Henrik Stenson and Paul McGinley completing the roster.
Woosnam will have to decide which double pair to drop by the time the contest opens with the foursomes on Friday.
