Britvic recalls kids drinks due to 'nut contamination'

Britvic has announced a recall of a batch of its Robinsons Fruit Shoot Strawberry kids juice drinks because of possible peanut contamination.

People or parents with children who have nut allergies should immediately dispose of or return any 200ml bottles of Robinsons Fruit Shoot Strawberry No Added Sugar bought after April 25th.

Britvic has stressed that the product is perfectly safe for those without nut allergies, all other Robinsons products are unaffected and returned bottles will be refunded.

The drink is sold in singles and multi-packs at ASDA, Morrisons, Sainsbury, and Tesco, and those bottles being recalled will have one of these codes on the neck of the bottle: JAN 09 N6 8115, JAN 09 N5 8115, JAN 09 N6 8116 or JAN 09 N5 8116, all followed by a four-digit time code.

Last year, chocolate company Cadbury recalled thousands of Easter eggs because they had the wrong nut allergy labelling.

A nationwide survey conducted in 2007 found that UK consumers were apathetic towards product recalls and food scares.

Almost 70 per cent said they were hardly aware of product alerts and fewer than 20 per cent trusted manufacturers.
