'Briton among' seven Gulf copter crash victims

04/09/2008

Seven people have died in a helicopter crash in the Gulf, aviation authorities have said, with one Briton said to be among the dead.

Dubai's civil aviation authority said the helicopter had been flying from Dubai's main international airport to an offshore oil platform when it went down at 20:20 local time (17:20 BST) yesterday.

The seven crew and passengers in the helicopter all died, an official statement said.

"The general civil aviation authority [GCAA] of the United Arab Emirates immediately set up an investigation team to find out the cause of the aircraft crash," the message explained.

Along with the one Briton, the other victims were from the US, India (two), Pakistani, the Philippines and Venezuela, the GCAA said.

The UK Foreign Office told inthenews.co.uk it was urgently looking into reports of the fatal crash.ADNFCR-8000014-ID-18763570-ADNFCR
