Deadly Kabul blast leaves 40 dead
07/07/2008
At least 40 people are believed to have been killed in one of the worst ever bombings in Afghanistan's capital Kabul.
The blast occurred when a suicide bomber drove a car packed with explosives into the main entrance of the Indian embassy, opposite the Afghan interior ministry.
Dozens of people were waiting to collect exit visas nearby and at least 140 people have reportedly been wounded in the attack.
It follows warnings by the Taliban that it plans to step up its campaign of violence against the western-backed Afghan government.
Coalition forces have been fighting to defeat the Taliban since November 2001, when the extremist Islamist group were ejected from power.
