Radovan Karadzic to appeal against extradition
25/07/2008
Radovan Karadzic's lawyer has confirmed he will appeal against his client's extradition to The Hague to face war crime charges.
Mr Karadzic has until tonight to lodge an appeal against his extradition and his lawyer, Sveta Vujacic, confirmed it would be made five minutes before the deadline.
Mr Vujacic confirmed he was attempting to buy time for his client before he is taken to the Netherlands to face the charges.
He faces 11 charges including genocide for his part in the 1995 massacre of 8,000 Muslim men and boys at Srebrenica.
The 63-year-old was discovered hiding in Belgrade on Monday posing as an alternative medicine therapist named Dragan Dabic.
Earlier this week, it was confirmed the former Bosnian-Serb wartime leader would represent himself should he be extradited.
If he does, he will follow in the footsteps of his onetime ally Slobodan Milosevic, the former Yugoslav president who died while on trial at the ICC.
Mr Karadzic, dubbed the European version of Osama Bin Laden, had been one of the world's most wanted men after disappearing in 1996.
