Six killed in US shooting spree after high-speed chase
03/09/2008
Six people, including one female United States police officer, have died after a shooting spree in Washington State.
The rampage was ended when the gunman turned himself in at a sheriff's office north of Seattle following a 145kmph police chase.
The man, believed to be 28-year-old Isaac Zamora, shot dead a sheriff's deputy who was responding to reports of a fatal gun incident.
Police later discovered two shot construction workers and another victim, while a motorist was found dead in his car in a rural area north of Seattle.
"We have multiple crime scenes with multiple victims," Sergeant Robert Goetez told the Reuters news agency. "This incident is very large in scope."
Mr Zamora's mother Dennise, who contacted police after her son's first alleged murder, told the Associated Press news agency: "I wish it would have been him or me that was killed. That's how deeply I feel about it."
The deputy killed by Mr Zamora has been named as 40-year-old Anne Jackson.
