Turkey bombs Kurdish positions

24/07/2008

Turkish aircraft have bombed 13 Kurdish rebel positions in northern Iraq.

The warplanes attacked the targets in the Zab region, near the Turkish border, late on Wednesday night.

A statement posted on the Turkish military website confirmed the strike, adding that it was trying to conform whether there had been any casualties.

Turkey has launched frequent attacks on the PKK in northern Iraq and last year launched a weeklong ground offensive.

Since 1984 the rebels have been fighting for independent rule in south-east Turkey.ADNFCR-8000014-ID-18699090-ADNFCR
