US drone hits Pakistani village
08/09/2008
Missiles fired by US drones killed at least nine people in Pakistan this morning, witnesses claim.
The attack on the Pakistani village of Dandi Darpakheil, near the Afghan border, is reported to have been aimed at a house and madrasa founded by Taliban commander Jalaluddin Haqqani.
"There were two drones and they fired three missiles," a local resident told the Reuters news agency.
Local doctors claim 15 to 20 people were wounded in the attacks, most of whom were women and children.
An unnamed intelligence official is quoted by Reuters as adding: "Both Uzbeks as well as Arabs were living in the house and adjacent guest house. Six people were killed but we don't know their identity."
Pakistan's army has said it is investigating the attack while the US military has yet to confirm its involvement.
