US troops accused of killing Pakistan civilians

03/09/2008

US soldiers have been accused of killing up to 20 civilians in an attack on the Pakistan border.

Reports claim the troops crossed the Afghanistan border and launched an attack on a village in Pakistan's south Waziristan region.

Local official Owais Ahmed Ghani claimed the attack involved three coalition helicopters and described it as an "outrageous" attack.

"At least 20 innocent civilians of Pakistan, including women and children, were martyred," he said.

Local villager, Habib Khan Wazir, told the AP news agency: "There was darkness at the time when the Americans came and killed our innocent people.

"We would have not allowed them to go back alive if they had come to our village in daylight."

A Pakistan army spokesman confirmed an attack had been carried out in a border village and said details were collected.

The US military, however, said it was unaware the attack had taken place, as did a spokesman for the Nato-led International Security Assistance Force (Isaf) in Afghanistan.ADNFCR-8000014-ID-18763354-ADNFCR
