Beckham warns of Yorke threat

13/06/2006

David Beckham has said that his former Manchester United team mate, Dwight Yorke, will be the main threat in England's fixture against Trinidad and Tobago on Thursday.

The two players who helped United win its historic treble in 1999 will meet in Germany on opposing sides, in what is set to be a thrilling match.

Though Trinidad and Tobago is a small nation, Beckham believes that Yorke still poses a tangible threat to the English side.

Speaking at a news conference today, Beckham said: "Yorkie's always been a threat to any defenders and any team he comes up against."

"He's a great lad, but also he's one of the best strikers around and has been for many years."

He added: "The time I spent with him at United was amazing -- we won the European Cup, we won leagues, FA Cups and he was a huge part of that team. It'll be nice to see him."

Yorke and Beckham played at Manchester United from 1998 to 2002, with both now playing for overseas teams in Australia and Spain respectively.

Beckham said that Trinidad and Tobago's draw against Sweden might have surprised some, but it came as no shock to himself.
