Manchester Vs Cancer 'super-gig' planned
13/12/2005
Manchester is set to host a 'super-gig' to raise funds for the city's Christie Hospital, showcasing the cream of Manchester's musical talent.
Organised by The Smiths bassist Andy Rourke, the show is expected to feature a host of Manchester legends, including the ex-Smiths man himself.
The Manchester Vs Cancer concert will feature acts such as New Order, Mani, the Doves, Badly Drawn Boy and Stephen Fretwell, although new names are being added all the time.
The gig will take place on January 28th 2006 at the MEN Arena, with tickets going on sale this week.
Rourke told the NME: "It will bring together people and bands that have made Manchester famous.
"It will be huge and the idea is that this will be the start of an annual event to raise money for charity."
On the event's website he explains: "Its dedicated to everyone whos been touched by cancer.
"With the help of Christie Hospital we want to show youre not alone and people are out there to help."
Tickets for the fundraising event go on sale at 10am on December 17th.
