Manchester's safest bar named
09/12/2005
Manchester's student nightclub 5th Avenue was named the city's safest bar at Manchester's Best Bar None awards last week.
The awards are organised by Greater Manchester Police's (GMP) City Safe unit, and aim to reward and highlight bars and clubs in the city which provide good management, a safe environment and a discouragement of binge-drinking.
City centre bar 5th Avenue scooped the award for the second year running at the ceremony last week.
Inspector Steve Greenacre from GMP's City Safe team told the Publican: "This year's entries have been of an extremely high standard and I would like to congratulate 5th Avenue for its dedication to creating a safe environment for its customers and claiming the title of Manchester Best Bar None 2005."
Home Office minister Paul Goggins added: "The Best Bar None scheme is an excellent initiative that highlights some of the best run bars in Manchester."
Described as Manchester's "epicentre of indie-scruff clubbing", the bar caters mostly for students with an eclectic tongue-in-cheek mix of music, from Queen to Madness.
