Morrissey reveals Manchester gigs

18/01/2006

Manchester's favourite musical legend Morrissey has released details of a UK tour which includes four gigs in his hometown.

Stretford-born Morrissey, former lead-singer of iconic Eighties band The Smiths, is embarking on a mammoth 29-date tour of the UK, beginning and ending in the north-west.

As part of the promotion of his new album Ringleader Of The Tormentors, Morrissey will be kicking off the tour at Salford's Lowry on April 18th.

After releasing five albums with The Smiths over a five year period in the Eighties, Morrissey split from the band in 1987.

He has since had success with solo singles including Suedehead and Last Of The Famous International Playboys, but kept out of the public eye for many years, before returning in style with his Brit-nominated album, You Are The Quarry.

Morrissey, who once sang "Manchester, so much to answer for" with The Smiths, returns to the city's Apollo in Ardwick on May 6th, before playing the Opera House on May 7th and the Bridgewater Hall on May 8th.
