Hundreds of homes refurbished on city's south side
24/07/2008
Some 500 houses in south Manchester have been refurbished in order to bring them up to the government's Decent Home standard.
Southway Housing Trust, a not-for-profit landlord that manages over 5,900 homes in the city, has been busy overseeing the £24 million programme.
Bramall Construction has been commissioned to install new kitchens, bathrooms, windows and doors in 2,000 homes, reports 24dash.
Southway's chief executive, Karen Mitchell, said there is still more work to be done.
"We're pressing on with making high quality improvements to the thousands of Southway homes in Burnage, Chorlton, Didsbury and Withington," she explained.
In addition to its regular housing stock, Southway has a number of apartments and bungalows designed especially for older people.
Trained-staff and a round-the-clock call system that goes straight to a support team are two of the benefits of the retirement homes.
