Land Registry: Mixed picture for regional housing market

01/07/2008

The average house price in Greater Manchester fell by 0.5 per cent in May to £130,533, according to the latest figures from the Land Registry.

Salford, Bolton, Trafford, Tameside, Rochdale and Wigan all saw house prices decline. Only the City of Manchester and Bury saw the average price increase in May.

In Manchester, house prices rose by 0.1 per cent, bringing the average cost of a home to £116,050. Over the past 12 months, house prices in the city have risen by 6.7 per cent.

In fact, this is the highest annual price increase of any metropolitan borough in England and Wales.

Across England and Wales as whole, average house prices remained unchanged in May, bringing the average cost of a home to £183,266.

Salford city council recently revealed that more homes were built in Salford last year than in any other time in the past two decades, with flats near Manchester city centre proving particularly popular.
