Metrolink extension 'good for housing market'
27/05/2008
The government's pledge to invest money in the extension of the Metrolink is good news for Manchester's property market, according to experts.
Last week, transport secretary Ruth Kelly promised £244 million for extensions and improvements to the light rail network.
It means that by 2012, residents and commuters will be able travel on Metrolink trams to Oldham, Rochdale and Chorlton.
"Accessibility is the key word with any property market and the fact that commuters will have easy access to the city centre is sure to increase demand for property in the area," says a spokesperson for FinancialAdvice.co.uk.
"Manchester has been something of a gold mine for property developers over the last few years with much of the city centre and surrounding areas undergoing total revamps."
The relocation of several BBC departments to Salford Quays has also been hailed as good news for the west Manchester property market.
