"Slow recovery" in house prices

North-west house prices rose by 1.6 per cent last month despite four boroughs in Greater Manchester reporting a slump.

According to Smart New Homes' index the average house price in the region was £212,577, while the BBC recorded an average of £144,020 for Manchester.

The cost of a home in Manchester fell by 4.9 per cent from June to August, followed by Oldham at 3.8 per cent, Tameside at 2.6 per cent and Wigan at 0.3 per cent.

Bolton experienced the highest rise at 7.7 per cent, followed by Salford at six per cent and Bury at 4.3 per cent.

Smart New Homes said: "East Anglia and the north-west have begun to see a slow recovery over the last three months … however the majority of the UK is likely to continue experiencing marginal falls until the end of the year."

Leigh is attracting buyers into a development on the fringe of a new Sports Village.

Barratt has submitted plans for 145 houses and apartments on the northern part of the development.

Prices start from £210,850 and Barratt is offering part-exchange on properties.
