Work starts on landmark office block in Stockport
03/06/2008
A ground-breaking ceremony has taken place in St Peter's Square in Stockport for what will be the borough's most cutting-edge commercial property.
The £13 million landmark office building will be completed in June 2009 and is likely to attract a number of companies in the financial and professional services industry, which is one of Manchester's most successful sectors.
Boasting energy-efficient features, it will provide the first Grade A office accommodation in Stockport town centre.
Council leader Dave Goddard said: "This ceremony marks a significant step forward in our ambitious vision for the town centre."
He added: "This landmark building will not only create an exciting new gateway into the centre but will also attract major employers to invest in the town creating new jobs."
The project is part of the Future Stockport initiative that includes plans to build at least 1,000 new homes and new retail space.
