DMX admits Miami drug charges
29/08/2008
Controversial US rapper and actor DMX has admitted to drug offences at a Miami court, his lawyer has revealed.
The 37-year-old pleaded guilty to trying to buy cocaine and marijuana from an undercover police officer earlier this year in the Florida city.
The admission of guilt will see DMX, real name Earl Simmons, extradited to Arizona where he is due to answer separate drug and animal cruelty charges.
In court he was sentenced to time served having spent several days in jail after his arrest in Miami this July.
His lawyer Bradford Cohen has criticised the sting operation that saw his client convicted.
"He got shafted on this one," he said.
The Arizona charges relate to separate alleged drug offences, while he has been accused of animal cruelty after malnourished dogs and dog carcasses were found at his Phoenix home.
