Govt 'to launch inquiry into Omagh bombing'
17/09/2008
Reports suggest the government has confirmed there will be an inquiry into how the Omagh bombing was investigated.
Twenty-nine people died and around 220 more were injured in the IRA car bomb attack in 1998.
The reported decision by the Cabinet Office to launch an inquiry comes after a BBC Panorama programme said that the bombers' phones had been tapped.
The documentary alleged that intelligence officials were actively recording phone calls as the bombers were carrying out the attack.
A Cabinet Office spokesman was unable to confirm the reports.
