Link with Mosley sex scandal forces MI5 officer to resign

18/05/2008

The revelation that the wife of an MI5 officer took part in a sadomasochistic sex session with a Formula One racing chief has forced him to resign.

News of the World broke the story of Max Mosley's involvement in the orgy in March under the headline, although the son of Sir Oswald Mosley denies details of the story and is seeking damages for invasion of privacy.

It is believed that MI5 has informed Gordon Brown and home secretary Jacqui Smith that one of its agents has become involved in the scandal and will be leaving the organisation.

However the director general of MI5 Jonathan Evans denies any involvement in any sort of sting operation to discredit the racing chief.

A Whitehall official said: "Any suggestion that the service was involved in setting up Mosley is total nonsense," reports the Sunday Times.

Although the officer involved cannot be named for legal reasons, he is understood to be in his 40s and have been involved in surveillance operations for the MI5.

It is alleged that his wife filmed the five-hour sex session involving one of the world's most powerful men in motor sport, selling the story to the News of the World for an undisclosed sum.

The tabloid reported that Mr Mosley allegedly hired the call girls to re-enact a concentration camp scene wearing Luftwaffe uniforms, inspiring the paper's headline: "F1 boss has sick Nazi orgy with 5 hookers."
