MPs expenses claimed without paperwork to be cut to £25
11/03/2008
MPs will have to submit receipts and invoices when they claim expenses worth more than £25, it has been announced.
The threshold has been cut from £250 and will take effect from the beginning of the next financial year, April 1st.
A report published today by the Commons' members estimates committee also announced that the amount of petty cash that could be drawn for office expenses is to be reduced from £250 to £50 a month.
The move is part of the committee's review into MPs expenses and is designed to improve public confidence in audit controls.
It was decided not to make MPs declare all expenses for practical reasons and food expenses escaped any cut in allowances.
A report into MPs' expenses is due to be published later this year.
