Tuesday release for Paris Hilton

23/06/2007

Millionaire heiress Paris Hilton is to be released from jail on Tuesday, it has emerged.

The 26-year-old has spent the last three weeks sitting out her 45-day sentence for violating probation on a drink-driving offence in a California detention centre.

Early in her sentence she was released for an unknown medical reason by the county sheriff but the judge sent her back to prison after he received no papers documenting what was wrong with her.

Since then Hilton has been complaining that she suffers from claustrophobia in enclosed spaces – like her cell – but that she has been getting used to the simple life in recent weeks.

Time off for good behaviour means, having been jailed on June 3rd, she will be released after serving 24 days of her sentence. The exact time of her release remains uncertain.

While she has been behind bars her complaints about the vast amounts of media coverage her case has attracted appear to have been heeded.

Two major US television networks, ABC and NBC, have both turned down chances to interview Hilton upon her release.

It appears the media coverage their media coverage has attracted, given the dubious ethics of paying for an interview, have been enough to put editors from both networks off any proposed deal.
