Investigation into Tesco closures continues
15/07/2007
Hertfordshire police are continuing to investigate threats which led to the closure of 14 Tesco stores yesterday.
The retail chain has reopened the stores today for Sunday trading after a series of threats around the country.
Stores were closed from Saturday afternoon onwards and information about the closures began to come through in the evening evening.
Police have said there does not appear to be any link to extremism.
A spokesman for Hertfordshire police said: "Police in Hertfordshire have launched a criminal investigation following a series of threats made to 14 Tesco stores."
No one was hurt in any of the alerts and one of the stores in London reopened last night.
Tesco lost millions of pounds in lost sales from yesterday's closures.
One employee, Darren from the Ashby de la Zouch store, told the BBC that staff were "informed briefly the store was going to be closed for the rest of the day".
"We were allowed to go back in to get our belongings," he said. "We had to be as quick as we possibly could."
