Aussie Harris going home
17/07/2007
Bradford Bulls centre Ben Harris has agreed a deal to join Australian National Rugby League (NRL) team North Queensland Cowboys from next season.
The 23-year-old, who came to the UK as a highly-rated youngster in 2005, joined Bradford from New Zealand side Canterbury Bulldogs.
He will remain at Odsal until the end of the 2007 Super League season before leaving to return home.
And the chief executive of his prospective new club, Peter Parr, said he was delighted to have signed Harris, who already has two titles to his name down under.
"Ben is a wonderful young talent who has won two premierships," Parr said.
"Following [current veteran centre] Paul Bowman's decision to retire, centre was an area we were looking to strengthen. Ben's signing certainly achieves that goal."
Harris' arrival in West Yorkshire coincided with the club winning the Super League title defeating rivals Leeds Rhinos in the 2005 final.
The player has three tries to his name so far this season, but his all-around playmaking ability and coolness under pressure will be the key attributes the Bulls will miss most when he leaves the club at the end of the season.
