Broken leg rules Hull FC's Whiting out for season

19/05/2008

Hull FC utility back Richard Whiting has been ruled out for the rest of the Super League season after breaking his leg against Harlequins.

The 23-year-old was taken to a London hospital after being carried off towards the end of the game at the Stoop.

And after undergoing scans it was revealed that he has broken two bones in his leg and will need a major operation. He is expected to go under the knife in London before returning to Hull.

"It is a bad injury and one which really does just typify our season," said head coach Peter Sharp, who has only just had Whiting available for selection again following a recent three-and-a-half-month absence.

"I feel so sorry for Richard because he has worked so hard to come back from his broken arm and I thought he was playing pretty well.

"It is another sad loss and once again we just seem to get a player back and then lose one, but we have to rise above that."

Hull's misery was compounded by their inability to turn a 16-0 lead shortly before half-time into a victory, as they conceded two tries either side of the interval to lose 34-26 to Quins.

The result leaves them second from bottom of Super League with just four wins from their 19 matches so far this season.ADNFCR-8000014-ID-18598656-ADNFCR
