Brough: Promotion better than winning Challenge Cup
08/10/2007
Castleford Tigers' Danny Brough says winning promotion to the Super League is more satisfying than when he claimed victory in the Challenge Cup final.
The former Hull FC scrum-half won the prestigious trophy in 2005 when he played a major part in the nail-biting 25-24 victory over Leeds Rhinos at Cardiff's Millennium Stadium.
But he said the record-breaking 42-10 win over Widnes Vikings, which secured promotion back into the top division for Castleford, ranked higher on his career achievements.
"It's more satisfying than the cup final for me personally because people doubted my commitment [to Castleford]," he said.
"I'm chuffed to bits."
Brough agreed a three-year deal with Wakefield Wildcats from 2008 onwards earlier this season, so regardless of the result in the National League One grand final he was guaranteed a return to the Super League.
But he described the decision to leave Castleford as "gut-wrenching" and said it was a choice forced upon him in order to ensure "the stability of my family".
During the match against Widnes, Brough was involved in five of his side's seven tries, kicked six goals and converted two drop goals in an all-round performance befitting his final game in a Castleford shirt.
