Bulls clinch one-sided cup tie

10/06/2007

Bradford thumped Huddersfield 52-20 to reach the semi-finals of the Challenge Cup at the Grattan Stadium.

The Bulls produced an awesome first-half display to lead 24-4, including tries from Ben Harris and Ian Henderson.

The Giants' miserable half was compounded by Jamahl Lolesi being sin-binned for a cynical late challenge on Paul Deacon.

From the resulting penalty, David Solomana bulldozed past several Giants players to touch down for the try of the match.

Marcus St Hilaire, Sam Burgess, new signing Tame Tupou, Terry Newton and Harris then crossed the line to put the hosts 30 points ahead with more than a quarter of the game left.

In the closing minutes, the 2003 Challenge Cup winners completed the rout with New Zealand winger Tupou grabbing his second try of the game.

Great Britain international Deacon continued his impressive form by kicking seven goals.

Huddersfield scored a solitary try in the first half through second-rower Chris Nero.

The Giants improved after the break and crossed the line three times with breakaway tries from Lolesi, veteran Robbie Paul and Ryan Hudson, while Brad Drew kicked two goals.

The result means Huddersfield must wait another year to win the trophy for the first time since 1953.
