Bulls extend Vagana stay
18/08/2006
Bradford Bulls have confirmed that veteran prop Joe Vagana has agreed a new one-year contract extension.
Bulls coach Steve McNamara was keen to keep the 31-year-old at Odsal and he admits he is delighted the player has now signed on.
"Joe is very, very important to this club in what he does both on and off the field and his form has been outstanding in recent weeks," McNamara said.
"Since the departure of Stuart Fielden I think he has really stepped up and we are pleased to have him back on board for next year."
The New Zealand prop has made 187 appearances for the Bulls since joining from the then Auckland Warriors at the start of the 2001 season.
He added he was equally pleased to have resolved his future and is now looking forward to focusing purely on his performances on the pitch.
"I've been here for six years and I want to finish off at this club," he said. "I've lots of good memories and I'm hoping for a few more now before I do pack in. It would have been hard to leave but it's a cruel world.
"Guys that have been here ten years had to go last season and it's part of rugby league but I'm just glad I've been given the opportunity to stay.
"I had offers from other clubs but here is like home from home now. My kids have grown up here in Bradford and I’m glad we’re staying."
