Bulls sign Harlequins back-row Worrincy

25/09/2008

Bradford Bulls have completed the signing of Harlequins back-row forward Michael Worrincy on a two-year contract.

Leeds-born Worrincy spent the 2005 season on loan at Hull FC before making his debut for Quins in early 2006.

His scoring rate over the past two seasons, including eight tries in his 16 games for the London-based club during the 2008 Super League campaign, attracted the attention of several other clubs.

But the 22-year-old has opted to move to Odsal, saying Bradford represents "a great club and environment for me to develop".

"I'm really looking forward to getting up there and making a mark," he said.

"I've heard a lot about Steve McNamara as a coach and it will be great to have someone to get the best out of me.

"It's been good in London. I came back down after a loan spell at Hull and have played plenty of first-team rugby recently but there's an opportunity there to win silverware with the Bulls and I can't wait to return north."

Bulls boss McNamara highlighted Worrincy's blistering pace, which has troubled defences throughout this season, as a major plus of his new signing.

"Mike's probably the fastest back-rower in the competition," McNamara explained.

"He has some sensational speed but is also a very powerful athlete standing at 6' 2".

"He scores tries, is a great support player and very knowledgeable about rugby league.

"Being young, quick, explosive and English, he is just what we need and has the potential - like Rikki Sheriffe - to go on and play internationally."ADNFCR-8000014-ID-18796717-ADNFCR
