Burrow celebrates 'dream year'
12/11/2007
Great Britain scrum-half Rob Burrow believes the 2007 season has been as close to the perfect year as he will ever get.
The number seven rounded off a stellar rugby league campaign as he was awarded the man of the series after starring in the historic 3-0 whitewash of New Zealand.
This latest accolade followed his back-to-back man of the match awards in the 20-14 win in the first Test and the grand final with club side Leeds Rhinos in the climatic match of the Super League season.
Burrow, Leeds' player of the season, led the side to the title with a thumping 33-6 victory over St Helens in the final at Old Trafford and said he could not have scripted the season any more perfectly.
"The way we finished off with Leeds and then to bounce into Great Britain like that and come out 3-0, I couldn't have written it better," he said.
"To be involved in the first team to win a Test series for 14 years is fantastic."
Burrow has been pushing for a regular place in the international XIII for some time, having previously been an understudy to perennial first-choice halfback Sean Long.
"I've been wanting to play [for Great Britain] for a while," said Burrow, who toured with the Lions in the 2006 Tri-Nations but never started a match.
"I've been involved in the squad for a while which has been a good experience. I just wanted that break."
