Captain McGuire inspires Dragons victory
01/07/2008
Catalans Dragons maintained their push near the top of Super League with a comfortable 30-14 victory over Wakefield Wildcats.
Despite leading 14-10 at half-time thanks to tries from young centre Sean Gleeson and winger Damien Blanch, Catalans roared back in the second half.
Captain Casey McGuire added to his first-half try with a well-worked second at Belle Vue.
Two further scores from Younes Khattabi and another from Sebastien Raguin, plus five goals from Thomas Bosc, ensured the Perpignan side travel back across the channel with all the points.
Danny Brough also kicked three goals for the home side.
Catalans' win means they stay third in the standings, trailing Super League leaders Leeds Rhinos by three points but well on course for the end-of-season playoffs.
Wakefield's post-season future remains in the balance, however.
The defeat means they slip one place and out of the playoff positions to seventh - level on points with Bradford Bulls and Warrington Wolves in fifth and sixth, respectively, and one point behind fourth-placed Wigan Warriors.
