Catalans count cost of Bradford win

28/03/2007

Super League side Catalans Dragons will be without Gregory Mounis and Sebastien Raguin for at least eight weeks after the pair were injured in the victory at Bradford Bulls on Sunday.

Both players suffered broken bones in the match at Odsal – Raguin breaking his forearm and Mounis being diagnosed today with a multiple fracture in his finger.

Although the Dragons emerged victorious in what was a surprise result against the Super League leaders, the club will now be without two of its most talented back row players for the next couple of months.

"The Bradford win has come at a cost to the Catalans Dragons with Greg Mounis and Sebastien Raguin both on the injury list for a minimum of eight weeks," chief executive Nicolas Rayer told the club's website.

"Sebastien Raguin underwent an operation to insert a plate in his forearm to stabilise a broken radius last night in Perpignan. He will be out for eight to ten weeks.

"To add to this, Greg Mounis has seen a specialist today who confirmed that a badly broken finger (index broken in three places) needs an operation that will see him miss the next eight weeks.

"Understandably our back row is weakened from these 2 injuries [and] as such we'll look into our squad for opportunities to give to our young up and coming French forwards."

Bradford also suffered a major injury blow during the same match when star New Zealand centre Shontayne Hape suffered cruciate knee ligament damage that will keep him out for the rest of the season.
