Chambers happy with rugby league debut

28/04/2008

British sprinter Dwain Chambers has said he would like further run-outs for Castleford Tigers after making his rugby league debut in a reserve game at the weekend.

The 30-year-old played four separate stints on the pitch against York, seeing a total of 39 minutes' action during the game.

Despite looking slightly rusty and awkward at times, Chambers said he was pleased with how he handled the match and he would like to continue his development.

Chambers was asked to play mainly as a full-back for the Tigers' reserves, which he claims is not his favoured position.

And although he admitted to feeling the effects of being involved in a physically demanding and confrontational sport - which is a world away from sprinting - afterwards Chambers was upbeat.

"Full-back's not the position for me but in terms of doing what I had to do for the team, I was prepared to do that," he told reporters afterwards.

"That bit at the end was the worst. But I was able to get up and fight it off.

"I'm still smiling and feeling the buzz from today's event and looking forward to the next time."

He continued: "As the game went on, I got more stuck in and there were a few tackles that left my head spinning. It's a tough, physical sport.

"I'm sure going to be feeling the effects tomorrow but I'm still standing."

Chambers is looking to carve out a new career path after being blacklisted by the British Olympic Association over his admission that he took the banned anabolic steroid THG.ADNFCR-8000014-ID-18569555-ADNFCR
