Cipriani try helps Wasps avenge EDF Energy Cup defeat
29/03/2008
A fine solo try from Danny Cipriani helped Wasps beat Leicester 24-19 and avenge their defeat in the EDF Energy Cup last week.
Two Fraser Waters tries also contributed to the victory, which keeps alive Wasps' hopes of a play-off place.
Andy Goode put over a penalty in the first minute to put the Tigers ahead but Waters then scored two tries in 20 minutes to put Wasps in charge.
Two more Goode penalties put Leicester back in the game and a try from Seru Rabeni then gave them the lead.
Cipriani then produced his moment of magic to jink through the Tigers defence and win the game for Wasps.
Elsewhere, Gloucester returned to the top of the table despite losing 17-14 to Worcester, who scraped victory with a last-minute Thinus Delport try.
Gloucester earned a losing bonus point which took them ahead of Bath at the top of the Guinness Premiership.
Four Adrian Jarvis penalties and a Danny Care drop goal gave Harlequins a 15-9 win over Newcastle. Jonny Wilkinson hit three penalties for the away side. Harlequins are third in the table, just two points behind Gloucester, while Newcastle are languishing in tenth place.
