Cockayne signs new three-year deal with Hull KR

26/08/2008

Highly-rated Hull KR full-back Ben Cockayne has signed a three-year contract extension to stay at the club until at least the end of the 2011 season.

The 2007 fans' player of the year has made 168 appearances for the club since joining from Doncaster in 2006, scoring 63 points and firmly establishing himself as one of the team's key players.

"It's great to be offered a three year deal," he said.

"I’m looking forward to next season and helping the team win some silverware.

"I'll be working hard to get fit and be ready for the 2009 season, I've had a few injuries this year and it'll be good to start afresh.

"I'd personally like to thank the Rovers supporters group and the fans forum who have sponsored both me and the club and have been a great help to Rovers over the years."

Head coach Justin Morgan said news of Cockayne's new deal is "terrific" for the club, who just missed out on a place in the playoffs after defeat to Bradford Bulls at the weekend.

"To retain a top player like Ben is testament to the side that we are developing and building here," he said.

"Ben plays with desire and passion and is a player with huge amounts of potential who has adapted well on the field this year."ADNFCR-8000014-ID-18747790-ADNFCR
