Dallas announces retirement

11/01/2007

Former Wigan Warriors winger and Australian rugby league international Brett Dallas has announced his retirement from the game.

The 32-year-old left the JJB Stadium at the end of last season and despite a number of offers to return to professional rugby league, he has decided to hang up his boots.

Dallas told reporters that he was keen to start his own electrical business in Sydney and wished to now concentrate on life after professional sport.

"My body has had enough and I'm looking forward to doing something different," Dallas said.

"The electrical business will be up and running in the next few weeks. It'll be a shock doing a full day's work again."

Queensland-born Dallas played for Wigan for seven seasons after joining from the North Sydney Bears in 1999. He had played for the New South Wales club for four years until North Sydney merged with Manly-Warringah Sea Eagles to form a new team, the Northern Eagles.

After moving to Wigan, Dallas became an instant hit with fans in the north-west, gaining a reputation as a hard-hitting, explosive winger who played with grit, determination and flamboyance in equal measure.

His last game in Wigan colours was against Hull in September last year. This ended a successful career which included a Challenge Cup win in 2002.
