Dragons coach Potter in talks over top job at St Helens
17/04/2008
Catalans Dragons head coach Mick Potter is in talks with St Helens over succeeding Daniel Anderson at the end of the season, it has emerged.
Anderson is set to leave Knowsley Road after the 2008 Super League campaign to return to his native Australia.
And it appears Potter, who has guided the unfancied Dragons to third in this season's standings, is the front-runner to take over the Saints hotseat.
"My manager has spoken to both clubs and I'm just weighing up the options," Potter explained.
"It's moving forward but I've not put a time frame on it, although I need to get it sorted fairly soon."
Some reports have suggested Potter is a near certainty to take the role, which would represent a step up the rugby league pecking order to one of the traditional big-hitters.
However, the Dragons coach has poured cold water on rumours he will be confirmed to take over the post in the next few days - saying the decision to leave the improving French club will not be an easy one.
"I'm enjoying it here," he said.
"The lifestyle is good and we're not going too badly at the moment.
"There is a lot of appeal for St Helens, especially with the quality of personnel they've got there and the people who run the organisation seem to be professional.
"But it's not cut and dried. I'll do what's best for myself and my family. At this stage, I'm straight down the middle."
