Dragons complete Carlaw scoop
06/07/2007
Catalans Dragons have announced the signing of Australia international forward Dane Carlaw from Brisbane Broncos.
The 27-year-old, who has 13 caps for the Kangaroos, joins on a three-year deal and will complete his move at the end of this season.
Dragons coach Mick Potter said of the second-rower: "Dane is a very sturdy player who is going to strengthen our pack.
"We have suffered many injuries this season and I hope that, with Dane in the pack, we will take another step here in Perpignan.
"His experience with the Kangaroos and Queensland in State of Origin [rugby league] will be very useful for the team."
Christophe Levy, the Catalans Dragons' managing director, claimed the signing "demonstrates the international interest" of the club, which only began life six years ago.
"[Carlaw's signing] is further proof of the credibility we will bring to our 2009 franchise," Levy added.
After finishing bottom of the Super League table last season, and only being spared relegation due to the rule that prevents first-season clubs going straight back down, the club have made massive strides in 2007.
The French side currently sit eighth overall and have a chance to make the end-of-season play-offs if they are able to put together a solid run of results in the final four matches.
