Dragons move into second place after destroying Giants

25/05/2008

The Catalan Dragons have moved into second place in Super League thanks to a comprehensive 48-0 win over Huddersfield Giants.

The Dragons ran in eight tries in total while looking imperious in defence against a toothless Giants side.

Clint Greenshields scored the opening try as the Dragons scored 20 unanswered points in the opening 40 minutes.

Gregory Mounis and Dimitri Pelo also crossed the whitewash while Thomas Bosc scored four goals.

Despite their commanding lead the Dragons did not relent against their weaker opponents and scored a further 28 points in the second period.

Djamel Fakir, John Wilson and Justin Murphy all scored before Greenshields touched down twice more to complete his hat-trick.

Bosc connected with a further four goals to take his tally to eight in the match.

The Catalan side have now won five of their last six games to put themselves in strong contention for a playoff spot at the end of the season.

That represents real progress for a side that has traditionally occupied the bottom half of the table since their introduction to the league.

Huddersfield, by contrast, continue to struggle this season and remain tenth in the table on nine points.ADNFCR-8000014-ID-18608995-ADNFCR
