Dragon's stunned by Hull fight-back as Raynor secures thrilling draw

30/03/2008

A dramatic fightback by Hull brought an end to the Catalans Dragons' charge up the SuperLeague table with a 28-28 draw the result of this exciting scrap.

Hull's Craig Hall thought he had won it in the final minute but referee Steve Ganson ruled out his try and the spoils were shared with the French side at the Stade Gilbert Brutus.

But tries from Danny Washbrook and Steve Raynor had brought Hull back to the brink of an unlikely victory after the English side trailed by 24-16 at half-time.

Defensive errors looked likely to cost Hull the match when Gregory Mounis and Dimitri Pello scored tires just before the break.

The French side deserved the lead after tries from Thomas Bosc and Vincent Duport had been evened out by Hull's Danny Tickle and Vincent Duport in the opening half.

Washbrook went over for Hull after the break, but chances of a comeback appeared unlikely when his side handed two penalties in front of the posts allowing the Catalans to re-extend their lead.

But Gareth Raynor thought otherwise and after scrumhalf Tommy Lee sidestepped the Dragons defense with a great pass out wide, the Great Britain winger willingly received and touched down to level the match with three minutes remaining to level the match.

Hall pounced on Todd Byrne's kick and looked to have scored a last-gasp winner for Hull after the hooter had blown but the try was disallowed.

Former Great Britain international prop Jamie Thackray appeared among the replacements for Hull after he was released by Leeds Rhinos last week.ADNFCR-8000014-ID-18528425-ADNFCR
