Dwyer: Faz is ready for England

04/12/2006

Saracens centre Andy Farrell has been backed by the former Australia coach Bob Dwyer to play a role in England's World Cup campaign next year.

Dwyer, who led Australia to World Cup glory in 1991, was in charge of a World XV team including the ex-rugby league star who faced South Africa at Leicester on Sunday.

After a 32-7 loss, which saw a well-drilled South African side dominate the assembled representatives from various clubs and countries, Dwyer praised Farrell's ability and predicted a bright future for the centre.

Dwyer said Farrell would "easily" take to inside centre at international level, adding that he would put him in an extended national squad now.

The former Australia boss added that he felt Farrell could bring something missing from the England back division since Will Greenwood's career finished.

Stressing his role as a crash ball centre and as an effective communicator, Dwyer was full of praise for Farrell despite his having made just three starts in the Guinness Premiership.

With another ex-Australia coach, Eddie Jones, also praising the Saracens man in the press this weekend – as well as touting himself for the vacant England job – it appears the prospects are good for the former Great Britain rugby league skipper in his new chosen code.
