Five Hull FC players bolster Great Britain squad

02/10/2007

Great Britain coach Tony Smith has called up five Hull FC players to join his train-on squad ahead of the autumn Tests against New Zealand.

Gareth Carvell, Richard Horne, Gareth Raynor, Danny Tickle and Kirk Yeaman have all been named, bringing the total number of players in the current squad up to 23.

Players are added to the list once their club is eliminated from the end-of-season Super League play-offs, and Hull FC lost 21-18 to Wigan Warriors at the weekend.

The latest call-ups follow the naming of five players from Bradford Bulls after they were knocked out of the post-season by Wigan last month.

Full internationals Paul Deacon, Andy Lynch and Terry Newton have all been called up, along with full-back Michael Platt and young forward Sam Burgess, 18, who are hoping to earn their maiden caps.

Several more players are expected to be unveiled when the remaining teams in the play-offs complete their campaigns.

Wigan face Leeds Rhinos in the final match of the knockout competition in a bid to meet St Helens in the grand final on October 13th.
