GB coach announcement 'within a fortnight'
23/03/2007
The Rugby Football League (RFL) are getting closer to naming the Great Britain coach and will be ready to announce the new man within two weeks.
Executive chairman Richard Lewis said today the RFL had drawn up a shortlist from around 20 "serious" applications, with interviews now scheduled.
Speaking on the RFL site, Lewis revealed: "We are getting to the final stages of the process. I would say we are a couple of weeks away.
"We have drawn up a shortlist and are in the process of going through the interviews."
He added there had been "a lot of interest" in the role, with the successor to Brian Noble destined to be a British coach.
Lewis said the preference was for someone who knew the domestic game, but stressed "the bottom line is it's the best person for the job".
Noble ran the side from 2004 to 2006 but stepped down after his part-time contract was not renewed, with the GB team keen to go for a full-time boss.
