Giants appoint Brown as new head coach

18/07/2008

St George Illawarra Dragons head coach Nathan Brown will take over at Huddersfield Giants following the end of the current Super League season.

The 34-year-old, who is a highly-rated up-and-coming coach in Australia's NRL, has signed a three-year agreement.

Brown will join up with his new club in October to begin preparations for the 2009 season.

And Giants chairman Ken Davy said the appointment is "fabulous news" for the Giants organisation.

"Nathan comes with the highest possible recommendations from across the rugby league world and throughout our process of appointment came out on top of a very impressive list of candidates," he explained.

"As chairman of this great club from the town where rugby league was born, I have seen many changes but non-so marked as the level of coach that now wishes to work for the Huddersfield Giants."

Davy said the Giants had "the highest possible calibre of applicant" for the post, which has been vacant since Jon Sharp was sacked in June - leaving assistants Keiron Purtill and Paul Anderson in temporary charge.

"This is the start of a new and exciting chapter for Nathan and the Huddersfield Giants," the chairman added.

Commenting on his appointment, Brown said: "This is a very exciting opportunity and I can't wait to get started.

"I've obviously got some unfinished business with St George between now and the end of the season, but I intend to spend every spare minute watching the Giants on video and liasing with Keiron Purtill and Paul Anderson on a regular basis.

"They seem to be doing a great job, and I know that when I come over – probably around late October – everything at the club will be in very good order."ADNFCR-8000014-ID-18691304-ADNFCR
