Giants boosted by Australian Rocket
29/05/2007
Huddersfield Giants have signed Queensland Cowboys player Rod 'Rocket' Jensen.
The utility player has been monitored by the Super League team for several years and, following John Skandalis' acquisition of a Greek passport, he can now head to the UK.
Jensen has scored 36 tries in his career with the Cowboys, in which he has played over 100 games and hopes he can add to the club's "already impressive line-up".
"I have always followed the Super League and the Giants in particular… I am looking forward to the challenge," he said.
Giants head coach Jon Sharp said the Rocket's versatility and experience in playing on the wing, in the back row and centre would give his side "plenty of options", while managing director Richard Thewlis appreciated his "all-action style of play".
"We have been monitoring him for a considerable period of time and we're delighted when we got the nod that he felt now was about the right time to fulfill his UK ambitions," Thewlis said.
"To be able to attract a current NRL star who played in the 2005 Grand Final and still has his best years ahead of him says much for the standing and perception of our club down under."
The 28-year-old joins former team-mates Brad Drew and Jamahl Lolesi at the Giants, with whom he makes up the club's overseas quota.
